James and Hannah Kirkby thought their wedding day was ruined when they turned up for the reception at Martinstown village hall, Dorset, to find no food or caterers. Luckily, after several frantic phone calls, Hannah's mum Katy Phillips managed to find a chip shop able to supply them with 52 fish suppers.
James, 24, and Hannah, 21, were married at St Mary's Church in Martinstown before the disaster struck. After receiving the SOS call, staff at the Marlboro restaurant in nearby Weymouth worked flat out to meet the emergency demand. Within an hour the happy couple's friends and relatives were all enjoying their meals.
Katy, 44, said: "The food went down a treat, it was gorgeous. The restaurant even brought salt, vinegar and ketchup. It could have been a disaster, but they really saved the day." The chip shop's co-owner Mike Johnson said: "We were more than happy to help. We have done some big orders in our time but 52 people was definitely a first."
And if you nip to Asda there might be a whoopsed cake...
James and Hannah were secretly relieved that the salad didn't turn up.
